Design Wall Monday - Orca Bay - 1/9/12

DESIGN WALL MONDAY - ORCA BAY - 1/9/12

I'm still working on Orca Bay -

I finally got the die I ordered to cut the “wings” -

After I tested it - (I’ll tell you all about that later) -
Just for fun - I tried to make a border block -

I took a HST - two black “wings” - and a neutral triangle -
The “pre-notched” wings make it look like they won’t fit -

But they do -
After they are sewn to the corner HST unit -

Layer the neutral triangle on top -

Stitch it right through that center point -

Press it open -

And it’s short!!
By less than an eighth of an inch -
But still short - Grrrrrrrrrr -

Well - it’s sure not the triangle -
That measures up just right -

Gotta be the seam allowance -
I know - I know - I HAVE a 1/4” foot -
And every other “seam guide” out there -

I STILL lose that 1/4” seam allowance -
Maybe I’m just mushing the fabric up too close to the guide -
Who knows??

Anyway -

Do over -

Only 99 more to go!! ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

Only 99? Well, gee, why not make two quilts?! It's going to be so pretty when you're done - it will have been worth the effort.

¼" seams......another reason why I love being able to move my needle position - even then my ¼" is never right on - guess it's a good thing I am so NOT a perfectionist!

Love it. I am trailing right behind you. I posted my string tri's. This is the step I am working on tomorrow in between the cable guy and pest control service calls my hubby set up for me.....Doesn't he know I have quilting to do!!!???

Also, I was having the same issue with my 1/4" seam allowance. I have 2 feet one even has the guide that sits along the feed dog. I finally tried a very expensive fix.....blue painters tape. 3 or 4 strips stacked and I measured it up and works perfectly. It give you more lead in than trying to correct 1/2" before you get to the needle. You can see a photo of my new guide at http://myworldinastitch.blogspot.com/2012/01/sew-long.html
