A Bit of Knitting -

The other day -

Quilty Mama - was making some dishcloths -

And posted about them - here -

I asked her for the pattern -

And she was kind enough to email me some links -

I thanked her very much -

And told her that I was sure that -

I had some cotton yarn -

Around here somewhere -

So I looked under the cabinet -
In the yarn bin -

What's that white stuff? - ;))

Yup - that’s yarn -
And - it’s white cotton - YAY!!
May need to use Sue’s baggie trick - here -
To keep it clean -

Now for the needles -
And I know right where to find them - ;))

Size 6 or 7?

Don’t know how old these are -
But I think that now they cost -
A whole lot more than 75 cents - ;))

So after a few false starts -
I messed up my yarn-overs -
A couple of times -
And found some help - here
Looks to me like all I have to do -
Is bring the yarn to the front -
Before I knit the next stitch -
I can do that - ;))

And about half an hour later -
I’m not a very fast knitter -
I had this -

And yes - I knit RIGHT-HANDED -

When I was a kid -
And asked my mother to teach me -
How to knit -
She said that she would be darned* -
If she was going to try to figure out -
How to do it LEFT-HANDED -
So that she could show me how -
So if I wanted to learn how to knit -
She would teach me -
RIGHT-HANDED -
Or not at all -

So I knit RIGHT-HANDED -
Because my mother taught me -

I crochet LEFT-HANDED -
Because I taught myself - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

*She's BOB’s mother -
So you KNOW she used the other word, right? - ;))

Thank you for the shout out....I had a chuckle when I went to see which post it was....I'm sewing hexies watching le Tour de France...cheering on Green Edge....Just as I talked about in that post! Your knitting looks lovely. I'm a slow knitter, too. I taught myself to knit and crochet right handed. I think they are the only things I actually do right handed. Everything else is done the proper way. ;)

Just be prepared - once you start using your own knitted dish cloths - nothing else will compare - I hate the wimpy store bought ones now.

oh gosh! Now you have me wanting to get back to making more dishcloths. I must say that you had me LOL when you posted about your mother. I can just imagine TWO of you in the same house. That could be a riot I bet!! hahaha

BOB's BOB-ness is hereditary - she got it from her mom who, in turn, got it from her mom - so if by "riot" - you mean fire and flames - yeah - get us together - it's a riot - hehehe - ;))

You're welcome! - Thanks! - I do a lot of things right-handed - unfortunately - knitting is just one of them - hehehe - ;))

This post brings back such memories. My mom used to knit dish cloths. We have just passed the eighth anniversary of her death and I have worn out all of them. Once in a while she would use whatever yarn she had on hand, not cotton. That is never a good idea. I may have to give these a try to renew my supply. Thanks for sharing.

Karen - I don't remember ever having made dishcloths - but this pattern is so easy - even I can do it - ;))

You won't go back to ordinary ones. Crochet ones are good, too. Same as with the knitted ones, just use a slightly smaller needle to get a tight fabric. Get hooking! ;)

My left-handed friend Pat crochets right-handed because her left-handed mom taught her the same way *her* mom taught *her* - as if she were facing a mirror. Grandma is right-handed, so mom learned left-handed, and taught her daughter... right-handed.

That sounds about right - ;)) Might work out though if Pat has a left-handed daughter - ;))
