Floral Applique - Border test

Worked up a little test for my border idea -

Prepped a leaf and some test border fabric -

I want the border to change color at the stem -
But I don’t want to have to pin and sew LONG curved seams -

Pinned the stem -

Stitched it down - both sides -

Took a look from the back -

Trimmed away the dark gray on the back -

And the light gray on the front -

Hmmmmm -

Well - THAT didn’t work - ;))

Maybe just stitch down the one side -

And then trim? - ;))

Oh, well -

Don’t worry -

I have a couple of more ideas -

AND -

I am always open to suggestions -

So stay tuned - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

SO why not fold your bias cut stem fabric in half, sandwich it between your two fabrics that have been curved cut, open it up, press flat then edge stitch? Now was that just clear as mud???

Thanks, Katie - that made perfect sense to me - it was another one of my "ideas" - but I kinda wanted to "sew" before I "cut". I figure that three/four layers will want to shift on me - and long borders are a pain even without the "shifting" - so I was going to try it on a small test piece to see if it would work - ;))

I would go with the one-side plan. I think it would keep thisgs just as flat and get rid of the sewing curves problem.
