Spool labels -

I LOVE the thread that comes from Connecting Threads - HERE -

BUT -

I do NOT love the messy cellophane wrappers that come with them - ;))

I don’t dare throw them away -

They are the only way that I can tell -

What the Color and Number are for the spool -

Unlike other brands that have the Color/Number ON the spool - ;))

I actually mentioned that to a Customer Service Rep once -
When I called to ask why they no longer carry variegated thread -
Apparently there is NO demand for variegated thread -
Are you kidding me?!?!?!? -
NO demand?!?!?!? -
How about me?? -
I want some!! - ;))
And as far as I know - they still don’t label the thread spool - ;))

But I digress -

Why do I care if the Color/Number is ON the spool?

Well - if I knew the Color/Number of the spool WITHOUT the wrapper -

I could THROW AWAY the dang wrapper -

And still be able to pull another spool just like it from my stash - by “Name” -
When the spool was empty -

Or re-order another one just like it -
When my stash ran out - ;))

SO -

I decided to label the spools MYSELF - ;))

I used a sheet of regular address labels -
And typed four lines -
All lined up nice and neat -

Line #1 - Color - Color - Color
Line #2 - Number - Number - Number
Skipped a line -
Line #3 - Color - Color - Color
Line #4 - Number - Number - Number

Ran it through the printer -

Pulled out my tweezers - scissors - and a mechanical pencil -

Cut the label apart -
This one is the Color/Number for the “BLUE” spool -
Trust me - not all of the spools have a name as obvious as this one - ;))

Carefully folded the label in half -
And used the tweezers to stick it inside the spool “core” -

Used the tweezers to smooth it out -
Or the mechanical pencil if the label didn’t want to play nice - ;))

There you go -
Cool, huh? - ;))

And no more messy wrappers - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

Well now, isn't that clever! Now if these threads were Superior you could send in that tip and get a reward. heehee

Great idea that I can see putting to use. I can never remember if I like the natural (more tan) or the slightly cream colored or the corn silk. I normally sew and quilt with the cone sized version rather than the smaller spools but had a set of the smaller neutral threads at one point along with the white, gray, black, silver set.

Clever girl!

Thanks - too bad CT doesn't pay attention - they are the ones who should use the tip - ;))

That's what I meant about the names not being so "obvious" - and I just like to know which one I'm using - ;))

I use these threads too! I have been writing the names or numbers inside the spool with a fine sharpie, but that is hard to do. I tried cutting the wrapper down to just the name and number and sticking that inside the spool, but those slip out. I will have to try your tip.
And, I want variegated thread too!

Thanks! What makes me mad about the variegated thread is that they USED TO CARRY IT!! I wonder what we have to do to make them bring it back - ;))

Good tip - Most of my embroidery threads are labeled but end up coming off before I use all the thread...
