BOB's Tuesday Toast - 7/9/13
Here’s to lawmakers -
Who levy a variety of taxes on cigarettes -
May they realize how much more $$$ they could make -
If they levied the same taxes on beer - ;))
===
BOB quit smoking cold-turkey several years ago -
And has often wondered why it was OK -
For cigarettes to be taxed so heavily -
But NOT OK for beer to be taxed at the same rates - ;))
If the same taxes that are levied on a pack/carton of cigarettes -
Were levied on a 6-pack/case of beer -
Just imagine the tax revenue that would generate!! - ;))
And -
BOB thinks that beer/alcohol is a mood-altering drug -
And should be regulated as such -
But it's not - ;))
I guess it’s because beer -
Is socially acceptable -
And so much better for you -
Than cigarettes -
And you can’t have FUN -
Without the beer - ;))
But let me ask you this -
If you see a fight break out -
In the stands/parking lot at a sporting event -
Do you suppose that they were smoking cigarettes -
Or drinking beer? -
I'd go with drinking beer - ;))
But then again - it’s probably just me - ;))
I think EVERYTHING in Japan is taxed, and they are raising it from 5% to 15% in the future. (We cut out a LOT when it went from 3% to 5%) and I wonder if I should go there and drink beer.
ReplyDeleteI think EVERYTHING here is taxed, too - we have federal taxes, state taxes, and local taxes. We even had a goofy law in California that taxed popcorn depending on whether or not it was already "popped". Don't know if they still do it - but I think that "unpopped" was considered a "food" and "popped" was considered a "snack" - one was taxed and the other was not - don't remember which was which - ;))
