One day I decided to make a simple -
Stitch-and-flip potholder -
Cut a square of Warm & Natural batting** -
Stitched and flipped some strips -
To cover the batting square -
Turned it over to trim it up -
Layered it -
Backing fabric square - wrong side up
Insul-Brite(R) - shiny side down
Quilted Top - right side up
Then I changed my mind -
And cut out a larger sized square for the back -
Folded the sides in toward the center square -
Mitered the corners -
And stitched them down with a decorative stitch -
I forgot to add a loop -
So I sewed a plastic ring to one corner -
And then when I used it the first time -
And the ring got in my way -
I took it off and sewed a loop to one side instead - ;))
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -
**Personal note -
Personally, I’m not a big fan of Warm & Natural batting -
Because It seems to make my quilts feel like mattress pads -
My opinion only - your results may vary - ;))
But it does seem to be nice and stiff for a potholder -
So I think that I may have found a use for my leftovers - ;))
One suggestion for my classes in Tohoku was using this technique but I was afraid it might be a bit difficult for new quilters working by hand. (That was after I gut tons of one-inch strips for a log-cabin design.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should say that because I was thinking of your Tohuku class when I decided to cut the larger backing - and I thought that that was how you taught them to do theirs. Getting the corners to fold and miter nicely was a bit of a challenge - but being able to stitch it all down at one time made up for it - ;))
