Pattern - Stars Over Broadway
"Strips and Stars" by Donna Wilder (c) 1993
Made for the County Fair - August 1997 -
Theme - Reach for the Stars -
Funny story -
I had taken the quilt top to the local quilt shop to show the staff. The next morning, I looked in my sewing room and didn't see it. I thought that I had left it at the quilt shop and called them from work - they couldn't find it. I panicked - where was it!!
When I got home I found it on the design wall - I had put it back up on the wall and hadn't looked at the wall behind me when I looked in the sewing room. I felt like an idiot when I called the store to tell them that I had found it - but I HAD found it - ;)).
At the County Fair -
Once again they didn't find the hanging sleeve -
And put it on the floor of a glass case -
It was the last time I entered anything in the County Fair - ;))
Entered in a local quilt show - January 1998
QJ - 1997
HAHAHA Kinda like trying to find the glasses on the top of your head. Happens to the best of us.
ReplyDeleteLove the pretty glittery fabrics!
Thanks, Linda - you can imagine my relief when I finally found it - WHEW!! - and that more than compensated for my feeling stupid for not looking at the DESIGN WALL in the first place - ;))
DeleteThat looks like a pretty challenging pattern to put together. I don't know much about county fairs...though I do remember entering watercolor paintings in my youth. Now, I realize a watercolor painting is a no-brainer for hanging, but I should think if they had a category called "quilts", they would have a committee that (A) knew how to display them, and (B) knew something about judging them as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie - the pattern is not as difficult as it first appears - which is just how I like them - haha - ;)) It is simple block construction - nine blocks - each block using five different templates - joined in five sections - all straight line sewing - no "Y" seams. The coloring of the star points make it appear more complex and blur the lines between the blocks - ;)) And as far as the Fair goes - there you go again - thinking - ;))
