Friday Funny - 6/5/15

A couple of weeks ago I got a new cordless phone set -

For the house - ;))

The old one had a home base and two extensions -

And one of the extensions crapped out on me -

And it was easier to get a whole new set -

Than it would have been to try to replace the crappy phone -

At least for me - ;))

Now, I admit that -

I'm not the most tech-savvy person in the world -
(My husband programmed our old phones) -

But I'm also not a total idiot in the tech department -

So I got the set all charged up -

And got everything programmed the way I wanted it -

Except for the "Caller ID announce" feature - ;))

Mind you - I HAVE "Caller ID" -

I just couldn't get the dang thing to "Announce" the caller -

Like the old system did - ;))

So I asked a friend to help me -

And we tried to set it from the home base -

No luck - it wouldn't "take" - ;))

Then we tried to set each handset individually -

No luck - it wouldn't "take" - ;))

Then I re-read the "Quick Reference Guide" one more time - ;))

The MENU/SELECT button said -
When the handset is not in use - press to show the menu.
While in the menu - press to select an item or save an entry or setting.

The OFF/CANCEL button said -
During a call - press to hang up.
While in a menu - press to cancel an operation -
Back up to the previous menu -
Or exit the menu display -
Or press and hold this button to exit to idle mode -

Now you have probably already figured out what was happening -

But just in case you haven't -

I'll explain - ;))

Every time I set the setting -

Hit MENU/SELECT to SAVE it -

I was stuck on the same screen -

So when I tried to BACK UP to the previous menu -

And EXIT the menu display -

I was CANCELLING the operation - ;))

Once I figured out that I should set the setting -

And PRESS AND HOLD the button to EXIT to idle mode -

Did it "TAKE" - ;))

And, yes -

I had to re-set all the settings -

That I THOUGHT were already set - ;))

Obviously my definitions of "BACKUP" and "EXIT" -

Are not the same as the guy -

Who put the "BACK UP" and "CANCEL" functions -

On the SAME button - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

These tech people don't understand that we aren't all tech savvy.... I used to think I was pretty good at this stuff - now I just call the 11 year old for help :-)

I used to think I was pretty good at this stuff, too - but now it just frustrates me. There seems to be NO logic to any of it any more. I have to figure out how the programmer thinks because his logic is NOT like mine - it IS like that of an 11-year old. Guess I need to find me one of those - ;))

Often the directions are not practical and often they were written in a foreign language and translated (poorly.)

Oh, the instructions were written in English and VERY clear - to an 11-year old. I am older and the wording/logic completely escapes me sometimes. When I hit MENU/SELECT and SAVED my choice - I expected to be BACK on the MAIN MENU to make my next choice. Instead, I was on the SAME screen wondering "How do I get BACK to the MAIN MENU?" BACKUP seemed logical to me - and EXIT (this screen) - silly me. Even BLOGGER puts you back on the previous screen when you hit SAVE to edit "Gadgets" on your "Layout" - ;))
