More quilting -

Of the Ladies -

First -

Some "sort of straight" lines - LOL -

Then some wavy lines in a wonky 9-patch -

Similar to the other one to the left and below it -

But going in the opposite direction -

Then a section of wedges -

Where I started at the bottom -
And worked my way up the section -
First from left to right -
Then from right to left -

I'm better at left to right -
But right to left is good to know -

Then another square -

With "sort of straight" lines -

Worked vertically from right to left -

I still have some more wedge sections -

And other areas to quilt -

So stay tuned - LOL - ;))

More progress -

On the puzzle -

And none in the sewing room -

Maybe tomorrow -

But I make no promises - LOL - ;))

Some more quilting -

On my Ladies -

First I redid the purple patches in the wonky 9-patches -

I did a wonky double loop -
and though they aren't wonderful -
they're good enough -

Then I redid the Lazy 8s or Wishbones in the long rectangle -

And did some wavy lines in another wonky 9-patch -

And some pebbles in a black strip -

And some "orange peel" in a section of squares -

With some loops in the pink patch in the top left -

A square spiral -

And a funky flower -

I'm making it up as I go along -

And I'm not going to worry about the wobbles -

Because I agree with everyone who says -

If I can't see them from across the room -

It's OK -

And I seriously doubt that anyone else -

Will be able to see them either -

Except my daughter - she has "eagle eyes" -

And if she says anything -

She can stitch her own quilts her own way - LOL - ;))

No sewing today -

I spent most of the day doing paperwork -

And then we played with the puzzle -

Festival Day (found the name on the bottom of the box)
Nancy Wernersbach - MB Puzzles -
2000 pieces -

Tomorrow is more paperwork -

And - hopefully - some sewing - ;))

The next one -

To be quilted is this one -

I call it "Ladies" -

And it goes back a long way -

All the way back to April 2011 - HERE -

That little patch on the bottom right is a scrap that I can use to check the tension without actually sewing on the quilt top (I learned that trick somewhere along the line - but it's been so long ago - I forget where - sorry)

I started with the vertical row of squares in the bottom right section -

And chose a red thread - same as the ditch quilting -

And - believe it or not - it blends right in -

It shows up on the black, of course -

But not that much on the pink batik -

Then I stitched the wonky 9-patches near the center -

I did swirls in the light pink/orange patches -

And a funky square-ish spiral in the purple ones -

The swirls are not great - but fill the space - so I'll leave them as is -

But I didn't like the spirals - so I "un-sewed" them -

And will stitch something else in those patches tomorrow -

I stitched Lazy 8's or Wishbones in the long rectangle -

But I didn't like them either - so I "un-sewed" them, too -

Tomorrow I'll redo them and try to get them smaller and closer together -

This is one of my favorite quilt tops -

Definitely "improv" - LOL -

And I've been hesitant to try to Free-Motion quilt it -

But now is as good a time as any -

I might as well -

Just Do It - LOL - ;))

The last two -

Sections are quilted -

First the last orange one -

I tried a funky flower -

And gave up trying to fit small ones going every which way -

And settled for big ones all going the same way -

Then the last red section -

I started "garlics" going from one side -

And switched to stitching them vertically -

Which seemed to help a little with the curves  -

But I have trouble seeing behind the needle -

When I'm trying to sew backwards -

So - anyway -

This one is quilted -

And sitting on the back of the chair -

With the "No Rules" one -

Both need binding -

But I need to clear off the space behind my other sewing machine -

In order to do that -

And there are plenty more tops in the closet that need quilting -

So I might just find another one to quilt -

And go on a binding spree later - LOL - ;))

More practice -

But first I had to fill in the lines -

That I missed yesterday -

It doesn't look bad from here -

But you can see my wobbles up close -

Oh, well -

Moving on - LOL -

I decided to try another "feather" in this green section -

Then I remembered that I had some stencils in the closet -

So I dug them out and sorted through them -

And found a "Baptist Fan" -

And "pounced" some powdered chalk over it -

The problem was that my FMQ gloves rubbed off the chalk -

Before I got to it - so I did them free-form -

And they don't curve quite as much as they probably should -

So let's just call them "organic" - OK? - LOL -

Then I tried another curvy one -

So - not too bad -

But it looked sort of "empty" -

So I decided to try to "fill" it -

I should have left it alone - LOL -

Oh, well -

Moving on - again -

I have two more sections left on this quilt -

And I'll play with them tomorrow - ;))

Two things -

First -

Gene is trying something different -

And is having issues with his hosting provider -

For now his address is -  https://artbygene.blogspot.com/

If you can't find him at his usual address - ;))

==

Second -

I marked another grid in another purple section -

And - in case you think it's the same one I did yesterday -

It's not - LOL -

It doesn't look that bad from here -

But compared to yesterday's section -

This one looks a bit wonkier to me -

And - now - looking at this photo -

It seems that I missed a couple of "lines" - LOL -

So I'll have to go back and add them in -

And thanks to some of my friends -

I'm not really bothered by my imperfections -

My reply to some of yesterday's comments was -
THANKS!!  I guess I did want it to look perfect - but then it WOULD look like a machine did it!  THANKS for the reminder that the imperfections are what makes it look like a human quilted it and that "perfectly imperfect" is perfectly acceptable - ;))
I'm not entering any of my quilts in any "shows" anymore -

And I don't pay much attention to the quilt police -

So my wonky Free-Motion quilting suits me just fine - ;))

Practice -

And more practice -

I need a LOT of practice -

So I pulled out this old practice piece -

And marked a grid in a purple section -

Free-motion quilted the straight lines -

And then practiced my "orange peel" quilting -

Down the whole length of the section -

It doesn't look too bad -

Until you look up close - LOL - ;))

With practice -

I can only improve - right? - ;))

I have LOTS of stuff to use for practice -

So it will be fun to see -

How long it takes me to improve - LOL - ;))

Quilting -

Is FUN -

If I can ever get that far - LOL - ;))

I finished the Free-Motion quilting on "No Rules" today -

I did a big spiral in this block -

Some swirls -

A funky flower -

More pebbles and swirls -

A square spiral -

Some "orange peel" in the little squares -

And they are still awful - LOL -

Some grid lines in the top border of blue and yellow squares -
Alternating directions -

I left the wedge sections for last -

They are the most fun to do -

Because I get to adjust the scale of the design -

From big to little or little to big depending on how the wedge goes -

So I just PLAYED - and PLAYED -

And realized that I remembered more designs than I thought I would -

The top is finally quilted -

You can't see the texture in this photo -

But you can see it on the back -

I still need to bind it -

But I have another basted quilt ready to go -

So I can keep practicing -

While I do other things - ;))
