QJ - "Buzz Lightyear"
QUILT JOURNAL - "BUZZ LIGHTYEAR"
Machine Pieced
Machine Quilted
Twin Size
Started - November 2003
Completed - March 2004
Made for Grandson #1
Pattern - Log Cabin
Quilts for Baby - Easy As ABC - Pg. 34-35
By Ursula Reikes (c) 1993
Our daughter bought an all-over print featuring "Buzz Lightyear" for Grandson #1 -
He chose the log cabin pattern and the "log" colors from my stash - red - yellow - purple - and black -
I "fussy cut" six "Buzz" squares for the centers of the log cabin blocks and used the rest of the print for the borders -
As I was quilting "in the ditch" - the black fabric began to split and shred!! Oh, great - now what!! It must have been really old fabric or just poor quality - either way, it was too late to replace it. I finished it anyway -
When I gave it to him - I told him that the black would "break" as soon as his mom washed it. When it "broke" - he should give it back to me and I would "fix" it -
Sure enough - by June 2004, the black fabric was totally shredded -
I had a flash of brilliance and sewed pre-packaged black quilt binding on top of the shredded black strips - it was denser - prefolded - and the perfect size!! -
Too bad I didn't think of it sooner - ;))

Another Box of Squirrels -
Hey - lookey what I got in the mail!! - ;))
A BOX OF SQUIRRELS from Sherry -
At Book, Hooks, Sticks, etc. - HERE -
THANKS, Sherry!!! -
Hmmmmm -
Reminds me that I never DID get very far -
With that BOX OF SQUIRRELS -
That I got from LindaJ back in January -
A Box of Squirrels - and some plaids -Seems that back then I smashed my knee -
courtesy of my friend LindaJ - Of life, quilts and a cat too -
She tells you all about them - HERE - ;))
But I haven't made much progress since then - not much as in zero - nada - zilch - nor have I had a chance to play with my Box of Squirrels - but I have a really good excuse - ;))
But it's better now - ;))
And now that box and those plaids have some more friends -
Sooooooo -
Hmmmmm -
Play with some SQUIRRELS??? -
OR -
Play with the side-setting triangles
on EASY STREET DETOUR??? -
My version of Easy Street - HERE - ;))
Hmmmmm -
Eenie - meenie - miney - moe - ;))

BOB's Tuesday Toast - 8/26/14
Here’s to all the blogs I've read before -
May I someday catch up - ;))
===
I really must apologize to all of my regular readers -
Because I stopped reading your blogs -
Sometime in February or March -
Due to "circumstances" -
And now like "Lucy" -
Who sometimes had a lot of "esplainin'" to do -
I have a lot of "catching up" to do - ;))
I have a TON of stuff to read -
Because I want to start back in January -
On each and every one of you -
Which means that I need to work some Reading time -
Into my Duck and Squirrel schedule -
Because I like to settle in -
And read your blog -
Like I read a book -
One "chapter" at a time -
Starting at the beginning -
But then again - it's probably just me - ;))

Design Wall Monday - 8/25/14
DESIGN WALL MONDAY -
Check out all of us who link up with Judy L. -
At Patchwork Times on Mondays.
We have some awesome stuff on our walls!
Well, THEY do - ME - not so much sometimes - ;))
===
This week I played some more with EASY STREET DETOUR -
My version of Easy Street - HERE - ;))
I put the first four Block As on the design wall in the hallway -
And after I took that photo -
Realized that you can't see the one in the top right corner - ;))
I took another photo -
So that you could see how HIGH it is on the wall -
And how I had to fold it over -
Because I'm not THAT tall - ;))
Then I got busy on the next nine - ;))
Three more to go -
To fill in the center section -
Then it's side-setting triangle time -
So I decided to take a break -
About the same time the doorbell rang -
And a neighbor brought me this -
Saying that they had just had a BBQ -
And that it was still WARM!!! - ;))
Before -
During -
After - ;))
It was YUMMY!!! -
And I ate it ALL!!! - ;))
Then I got a second wind -
And decided to finish up the last three Block As - ;))
So -
I don't know which Ducks -
Are going to rear their ugly heads -
This week -
But the plan is to play with my idea -
For the side-setting triangles -
And corner blocks - ;))
I want to try to integrate the border into them -
Like I did on my Left-Handed Quilter Sampler Quilt -
(Check out the page/tab at the top of my blog - ;))
It looks cool in my head - haha - ;))
And I know that I complain a lot -
About having to deal with the dang Ducks -
But they DO keep me busy -
So that I don't dwell on the fact -
That My Guy isn't in the next room anymore - ;((
Tomorrow will be two months - ;((
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -
TUSAL - 8/25/14
I have missed the last few months -
Of this FUN game -
Due to "circumstances" -
But now I'm back -
So here we go - ;))
===
Once again I have joined a bunch of other stitchers -
In Daffycat’s TUSAL - HERE -
It's a Totally Useless Stitch-A-Long - ;))
To play the game -
I have to fill my glass container -
With saved thread clippings -
Or ORTS - Old Ratty Threads -
Fabric trimmings -
Stitching cast-offs -
And then -
On (or about) the New Moon -
Take a picture of the ORTS in my jar -
Post it to my blog -
With a link back to her TUSAL post - HERE -
Label the Totally Useless posts with “TUSAL” -
And then visit her blog and comment on her ORT report for that month's TUSAL - ;))
It's EASY -
It's TOTALLY USELESS -
And -
It's FUN!! - ;))
This year I decided NOT to empty my jar each time -
Maybe a year-to-date accumulation of ORTs -
Will make it look like actually DID something - ;))
===
This photo may look like I didn't add much -
Since the last one I posted - HERE -
But I assure you that I HAVE added some ORTS -
From the latest round of blocks -
But because the thread that I'm using to piece is "beige" -
It doesn't show that well in the photo - ;))
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

QJ - 4 "H" Quilts Into One
QUILT JOURNAL - 4 "H" QUILTS INTO ONE
Machine Pieced
Machine Quilted
Baby Quilts - 4 @ 33" x 33"
Started - June 11, 2000
Completed - 2004
Pattern - "H" block -
Even More Quilts For Baby - Easy as ABC - Pg. 18-19 -
By Ursula Reikes (c) 1993
This quilt started out to be four separate quilts -
The tops were the same black print with a yellow "H" -
The backs were to be different colors -
The one for Grandson #1 was Red -
The one for Grandson #2 was Blue -
The one for Grandson #3 was Green -
And the one for Granddaughter #1 was Turquoise -
Somehow it got lost in the shuffle of Life - and by the time I got back to it - the kids were too big for baby quilts. Since I had already quilted some of them - I sewed them all together to make one big quilt on my new Husqvarna/Viking - Lily 555.
And since I never took a photo of the original quilt - and it has been “loved” to pieces - all I have to show for it is the scrap card -
And the Heart - ;))

BOB's Tuesday Toast - 8/19/14
Here’s to getting your Pressing Sequence down -
May it forever speed up the block assembly process - ;))
===
BOB doesn’t assemble her blocks for -
EASY STREET DETOUR -
My version of Easy Street - HERE -
The same way Bonnie does -
So she had to work out her own Pressing Sequence -
But once I did -
I was able to make the last SIX sets of corner units -
For my Block As -
Yesterday afternoon -
So now I have them all ready to go - ;))
And I MUCH prefer to assemble these blocks -
As GIANT 9-patches -
Instead of FIVE rows of FIVE blocks -
But then again - it’s probably just me - ;))

DESIGN WALL MONDAY -
Check out all of us who link up with Judy L. -
At Patchwork Times on Mondays.
We have some awesome stuff on our walls!
Well, THEY do - ME - not so much sometimes - ;))
===
I’m still working on EASY STREET DETOUR -
My version of Easy Street - HERE - ;))
I made a fourth Block A -
And then decided to just make a series of four corner units - ;))
It seemed to be more “efficient” -
Once I had the pressing sequence mapped out -
And it seemed to go a little faster, too - ;))
I am still a SLOW POKE QUILTER -
But I managed to get six sets done -
And all pinned together -
In time to post some photos today - ;))
I also spent some time drafting some posts -
For Widowhood Wednesday -
On my other blog - Quilter BOB - ;))
And don’t worry -
The HOMEWORK assignments aren’t scary - ;))
BOB is a big LIST MAKER -
So the first batch is just a bunch of LISTS to make -
And LISTS are easy to make -
MUCH easier than trying to get the pressing sequence down -
In some of these dang quilt blocks - ;))
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

Playing around with an idea - 8/16/14
As you all know -
My husband died recently -
And I have joined the “Widow Club” -
Along with Linda J - Chris - Stella - and Mtn Mama -
And it totally sucks - ;((
Linda J said -
This is not a club any of us wants to be in but unfortunately we don't get to decide. So true.
Linda J - Chris - Stella - and Mtn Mama have already posted their stories -
And reading what they wrote -
Helped me tremendously -
So I thought that I might add my two cents -
To the information they shared - ;))
When I was “talking” to Linda L -
I told her that -
I was playing around with the idea of posting some Widowhood 101 - Tips - tricks - and tutorials - ;))
Not "personal" stuff - but some of what I did - in the order I did it - and what I did right - and what I would have done differently - ;))
Maybe have a Widowhood Wednesday post - and have BOB give everyone a "homework assignment" for the week -
What do you think? - ;))
She said that she thought -
My Widowhood Wednesday posts would be a fantastic idea - but those "homework assignments" sounded a bit scary. hahahaSo - to keep this blog about Left-Handed Quilting -
And sharing some of my Quilting Life and Squirrel projects -
I thought that I would try to post some of my Duck stuff -
On my Quilter BOB blog -
On Wednesdays -
And call it Widowhood Wednesday -
For those of you who are interested - ;))
BOB promises that the “homework assignments” won’t be scary -
BOB doesn’t DO scary - ;))
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

Well, THEY do - ME - not so much sometimes - ;))
===
I got sidetracked with “ducks” again this week -
But finally did manage to get back to -
EASY STREET DETOUR -
my version of Easy Street - HERE - ;))
When I checked back on my blog to see where I had left off -
I promptly realized that it was NOT -
LAST YEAR’S Bonnie Hunter Mystery -
As in 2013 -
It was the year BEFORE that -
As in 2012 - ;))
I’m probably the last one on the planet to be working on it -
But I have all of the Block Bs done -
And the first two Block As -
And I found 14 baggies with the pieces for the rest of them - ;))
Each baggie has the pieces for one block -
So - make the four corner units -
Lay it out like a 9-patch -
Stitch it together -
Rinse and repeat - ;))

So after over a month of dealing with “ducks” -
I’m REALLY ready to play with some “squirrels” -
For a change - ;))
If I forgot a “duck” -
Too bad -
It will make itself known sooner or later -
And I will deal with it then - ;))
In the meantime -
I dug out Easy Street Detour -
My version of Easy Street - HERE -
LAST YEAR’S Bonnie Hunter Mystery -
And put it up on the design wall in the hallway - ;))
I THINK that I have all of the pieces - ;))
But, if not -
I guess that I’ll find out soon enough, huh? - ;))
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -
