Some foursies -

For my Sundance Bargello

And the next four strips on the right -

Ready to be un-sewn at the proper spot -

It's slow going -

But I eventually get there - ;))

A slow start -

After I sewed the first twosie -

On my Sundance Bargello

I realized that I had messed up the order of the strips somehow -

So - I un-sewed the twosie -

And re-sewed the strips back into tubes - to start over -

When I rearranged them again - in the correct order -

I un-sewed them at the proper spot -

And stair-stepped them - again -

Then I sewed a couple of twosies - on the left side -

So - through all of that -

I only have two twosies to show for yesterday's efforts -

But - at least I caught it before I had gone too far - ;))

Starting in the middle - again -

I pulled the center strip/tube -

For my Sundance Bargello

And the four strips/tubes to the left -

And the four strips/tubes to the right -

Turned the strips/tubes inside out -

Then stair-stepped them according to the pattern -

And - again -

Starting in the center seemed to be the most logical spot -

The fabrics were in a pleasing order straight out of the package -

So I tried to not over-think it - again -

And put the DARK BLUE ones at the top -

With the ORANGE ones below them -

The same way I sewed the strata -

That should make it easy to follow the ORANGE patches -

As they shift up and down the pattern -

Now I need to "unsew" each tube at the top -

To make the long strips -

And start sewing them together - ;))

It's a top! -

My Northern Woods Bargello

Is a top! -

Ta Dah! - ;))

I LOVE it -

I LOVE the colors and the gorgeous batiks -

I LOVE the flow of it -

It's funny - I don't really see the ORANGE anymore -

But I think that the TURQUOISE makes it POP -

And gives it a bit of a Southwestern flair - don't you? -

Now I'm looking forward to playing with the next one - ;))

The last four -

Strips on this side -

For my Northern Woods Bargello

Are twosies -

After I sew them together for a foursie -

Then I can sew them to this section -

And the middle strip -

Then add the right side -

Which you have already seen -

And we'll have a quilt top - ;))

Moving on -

To the left side -

Of my Northern Woods Bargello

Since I started in the center with the skinny strips -

And sewed some to the left and to the right -

I had part of this side done already -

Now I only have four more strips to go - ;))

The right side -

Of my Northern Woods Bargello is done -

Ta Dah! -

I took this photo long-ways - and rotated it -

So it might look a bit better than the first one above -

If you double-click it -

I LOVE it -

I was holding my breath there for a while -

Not knowing if it would work or not -

But I should have known it would -

Sometimes you just have to relax -

And trust the process - ;))

And another eightsie -

For my Northern Woods Bargello

Then I started pressing what I had so far -

I LOVE it when the seams nest nicely -

Today I'll try to sew the sections of the right side together -

And we'll see what it looks like tomorrow - ;))

And another foursie -

For my Northern Woods Bargello -

And a couple more twosies -

On the right side -

As you can see -

Bargellos are not the fastest quilts to make -

But they sure are some of the prettiest - ;))

Another foursie -

Was sewn for my Northern Woods Bargello

The one on the far right that I showed you the other day -

Then I sewed it to the other foursie on the right -

To make another eightsie -

So now I have the center strip -

And one eightsie to the left -

And one eightsie to the right -

I still have twelve more strips to sew on each side -

So we'll see how many more I can sew together today - ;))

Same -

Yesterday seemed to slip away from me -

And I didn't sew one stitch -

So my Northern Woods Bargello  -

Looks the same as it did the day before -

Maybe today I'll sew together the four strips on the right -

And then maybe I'll sew some more - ;))

Moving along -

On my Northern Woods Bargello

I sewed the four new striips on the left together -

Then added them to the other foursie on the left -

To make an eightsie to the left of "center" -

It still doesn't look like much -

Since they are really skinny strips -

But the pattern is starting to emerge -

And I like how the sunlight through the curtain -

Makes it glow - ;))

An experiment -

My Northern Woods Bargello

Will be an experiment -

Since I'm not sure how this will turn out -

With only two repeats of the fabrics -

But when I'm done -

I'll know if I need to adjust anything -

Before I tackle the other one -

So - out of curiosity - and for a mini-preview -

I put the center strip up on the design wall -

Along with the sewn foursies on each side -

I haven't pressed anythng yet -

So they don't stick to the wall very well -

And look sort of twisted in the photo -

I can't really tell yet -

I may or may not have positioned the ORANGE one in a "good" place -

And it may or may not cut the pattern in half -

But it's too late now -

We'll just have to wait to see how it turns out - ;))

Some foursies -

For my Northern Woods Bargello

Were made from the twosies -

Then I pulled four more strips for each side -

Turned them inside out -

And stair-stepped them again -

I think I'll continue to make foursies -

That seems like a good choice -

It's not too many -

And I can see the pattern emerge -

As I go along - ;))

Some twosies -

For my Northern Woods Bargello

It may not look like much -

But each of those four long seams -

Had 39 short seams to match -

One seam every two inches -

For a total of 156 seams -

It's not hard -

But I have to slow down -

So it IS time-consuming - ;))

Starting in the middle -

I pulled the center strip/tube -

For my Northern Woods Bargello

And the four strips/tubes to the left -

And the four strips/tubes to the right -

Turned the strips/tubes inside out -

Then stair-stepped them according to the pattern -

Starting in the center seemed to be the most logical spot -

Since I have NO idea how this one is going to turn out -

My Imperial Bargello has THREE repeats of each fabric -

This one and my Sundance Bargello only have TWO -

I fiddled with adjusting the center "tube" to put various fabrics at the top -

Then figured that it really wouldn't make much of a difference -

The fabrics were in a pleasing order straight out of the package -

So I tried to not over-think it -

And put the DARK GREEN one at the top -

With the ORANGE one below it -

The same way I sewed the strata -

That should make it easy to follow the ORANGE patch -

As it shifts up and down the pattern -

Now I need to "unsew" each tube at the top -

To make the long strips -

And start sewing them together - ;))

Some re-arranging -

I realized that I hung the strips -

For my Sundance Bargello

"Backwards" and/or "upside-down" -

Since I was sitting at the BACK of the frame -

When I folded them over the front rail of the longarm -

And - since I'll be removing them from the FRONT of the frame -

When I go to sew them -

I thought I would re-arrange them now -

Before I get them all messed up - ;))

A little more cutting -

Long story short -

The skewed strata on my Sundance Bargello was an EASY fix -

===

I could have un-sewn a couple more seams to try to straighten them out -

Or taken them all apart -

But I didn't want to do that -

And - as it turned out - I didn't have to -

I only un-sewed the very last seam that made each "tube" -

Then I folded each one in half so that both layers were nice and flat -

And the strip seams were all straight - going from left to right -

Then I pinned the last seam just the way it was -

With the ends of the strips "offset" a bit -

And resewed that seam on each one -

I figured that I could sew the mis-matched last seam -

And pretend that all of the edges were even -

Because they would be -

After I made my first cut to even the edge - LOL -

The only question then was whether or not I would have enough width -

To cut all of the strips that I needed from each strata -

And I did - YAY!! -

I would have been in BIG trouble -

If I had tried to cut the strips before straightening them out -

So - after I sewed them - and folded one up to cut it -

I rechecked my math -

And thought I could get all of the strips I needed -

Cut at the correct widths -

And I was right -

The first strata had the "center" piece -

So it had one extra strip to cut -

The scrap on the right was my "straighten the edge" cut -
Because I'm LEFT-handed - and cut from the RIGHT side of the strata -

And the scrap on the left was what I had left over -

So you can see that I had plenty -

And how straight my strip seams are -

And how uneven the left edge is -

The second strata had even more left over at the end -

Another reason why I LOVE the flat packs by Island Batik -

The edges are cut straight - and NOT pinked -

The strip widths are accurate -

And they are longer than some other brands -

Anyway -

I got both strata cut and hung over the front rail of the longarm -

With my Northern Woods Bargello strips hanging over the back rail -

And my Sundance Bargllo strips hanging over the front rail -

It doesn't look like I'll be doing much longarm quilting for a while - ;))

A little skewed -

The strata for my Sundance Bargello  -

Was already sewn into a tube -

And a little skewed -

So I re-pressed it -

But that didn't fix it -

So I took out that last seam -

And laid it out on my insert tables -

When I straightened it out -

And folded it up -

To check the "alignment" -

The whole thing was offset by a couple of inches -

I could un-sew a couple more seams to try to straighten it out -

Or just leave it and pin it the way it is -

Then resew it -

I'm leaning toward the latter -

I have to re-check my math -

But I think I have enough between the skewed edges -

To get all of the strips that I need -

And I can always cut the outermost strips -

A bit narrower than the pattern states -

Who's going to know -

What they "should have been"? - LOL - ;))

Monday, September 11, 2023

Some cutting -

And I got the strips cut for both of the strata -

For my Northern Woods Bargello -

Then I draped them over the back rail of the longarm -

I tried to fold my Sundance Bargello strata to cut them -

But I couldn't get either one of them to lay flat -

I don't know why they are so skewed -

But I don't want to cut them until I figure it out -

I either sewed some strips crooked or pressed it wrong -

So I'll have to play with them a little to see what's going on - ;))

More sewing -

And the four strata of 20 strips -

For my Sundance Bargello

Became two strata of 40 strips -

Which then became two tubes of 40 strips -

And they are all pressed nice and neat -

Now I have to get in the mood -

To actually cut them - ;))

Four strata -

Of twenty strips each -

For my Sundance Bargello

Is as far as I got yesterday -

Today I should be able to sew the pairs -

To make two strata of forty strips each -

Then sew those two strata into tubes -

I may or may not get them all pressed nice and neat -

We'll see - ;))

More foursies -

Yesterday some foursies -

For my Sundance Bargello

And some twosies -

Became eightsies -

And foursies -

Today I'll add these to the other eightsies -

And keep going until I have two sets of forty strips -

As long as my sewing mojo doesn't disappear - ;))
