Design Wall Monday - 5/4/15

DESIGN WALL MONDAY -
Check out all of us who link up with Judy L. -
At Patchwork Times on Mondays.
We have some awesome stuff on our walls!
Well, THEY do - ME - not so much sometimes - ;))
===

On my wall today -

The Churn Dash blocks from long ago - ;))

The rest of them are on the LEFT wall -
In the hallway -

Along with a Christmas top -
And a Thanksgiving wallhanging -
Both of which need stitching around the letters -
On the RIGHT wall -
In the hallway - ;))

I didn't get much sewing done this week -
But I did do a bit of re-arranging -

AGAIN - ;))

I had set up the two folding tables -
That had been smooshed in my sewing room/studio -
In an “L” shape in front of the fireplace -
With my sunken table in front - ;))

My Husqvarna Lily 555 (Lily) is set up with her custom walking foot -
For quilting “in the ditch” and sewing on bindings - ;))

I moved her from in front of the fireplace -
In the family room -

To my sewing room -
Under the design wall -

Next to SuzieQ -
My Brother SQ9050 -
In front of the window - ;))

Lily is set up to do "in-the-ditch" quilting -
With her custom walking foot -
But I couldn't quite get used to going into the family room -
To sew on her - ;))

I think part of my problem is -

That I don't usually sew in my FAMILY room -

I sew in my SEWING room -

So I moved her - ;))

I think she and SuzieQ will be very happy together -
And the other two can keep each other company -
In the family room - ;))

I moved them off of the kitchen table -

And onto the large white tables -
Where they have a bit more "elbow" room - ;))

On the TV tray to the right of Lily -
Is a stack of placemats -
That need to be quilted -

I made them "envelope-style" -
And want to do some "in-the-ditch" quilting first -
And then maybe some Free-Motion Quilting - ;))

The backing is a very pretty batik -
That I have had for years -
I figured that I might as well USE it - ;))

So the new plan is to piece on SuzieQ -
And quilt "in-the-ditch" on Lily -
In my sewing room -

And then get myself in gear -
To practice my Free-Motion Quilting in the family room - ;))

Don't laugh - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

I love that backing batik....I would probably have those placemats upside down as much a right side up.

Love the fabric in your placemats! Nice to have all your machines set up in their own designated spots and have their own unique functions.

Thanks, Gene - The placemats will be reversible and are intended to be a gift for a friend. Hopefully she will like one side or the other - if not both - ;))

Thanks, Katie - I have acquired four sewing machine through the years - two of them are REALLY old - but they still work - so I might as well USE them. But I don't like "switching out" machines - I like them set up and ready to go!! It's an idea carried over from my "working" days.

At work we had different desks set up for different functions - like different work "zones" - and it was a whole lot easier to move to another desk to do something than it was to re-arrange all of the stuff on your own desk to get the same job done. The same idea translates to my sewing - it's easier for me to sit down at a different machine than it is to change out the machine/feet/settings every time I want to sew something - ;))

You have a lot of machines!!! I hope Lily is happy now! :)

My quilt "room" is a space about two feet wide on the sofa. I do have a nice wing chair but since it is near the door, it is piled high with stuff my husband dumps there as he walks in. An old sewing machine is in a heavy case at the back of the closet. Last time I checked, it was needing a whole can of oil to get moving. I don't have any idea where I might put it to sew
I love that churn dash.

Thanks, Kitty - I have four machines - but they are not new. I have been sewing for years and "upgraded" occasionally when I could afford it.

#1 - The oldest one is about 30 years old and no matter what the stitch length dial says - it sews a VERY short stitch - so I put in a size 14 needle and use her for Foundation Paper Piecing.

#2 - The next one is about 20 years old - has a custom table extension - but not very many stitches - so I fitted her with a FMQ foot and use her for that.

#3 - My Lily is about 12 years old and was VERY expensive (for me). She is my FAVE for "in-the-ditch" quilting and machine applique. She was my first electronic machine - and all of the "extras" - feet and attachments - cost "extra" - ;))

#4 - My Brother SQ9050 is my newest one and is about 3 years old. I got it at Wal-Mart and it came WITH a bunch of extra feet and lots of built-in stitches. It has more bells and whistles than my Lily and cost about 1/10th what my Lily cost 12 years ago - gotta love technology - ;))

I think Lily and SuzieQ will be very happy together. Lily was in a VERY good mood this afternoon when I was playing with the placemats - ;))

I have the luxury of space - and am thankful for that. It wasn't always that way - so I know I have it good. Glad you like the Churn Dash - it's from a YouTube video from Missouri Star Quilt Co - and is quite clever in how it is cut and assembled - ;))

All this re-arranging of sewing machines sounds exhausting! Do you have the energy to quilt! I'm visiting from Chantal's blog.

Love all your setups. I hope that works better for you. Good to 'see' you again. I've sure been preoccupied this last month so it feels good to be able to get back to some sewing (and blog browsing) again.
That design hall is looking good!

Hi Lisa - I have been re-arranging a bunch of stuff lately - trying to get somewhat organized and to "de-clutter" a bit - and NO- I don't have the energy to quilt right now - but I will soon - I hope!! Thanks for visiting - now I need to check out what you and Chantal have been up to - ;))

Thanks, Linda - I have been re-arranging stuff and not blogging or quilting much. Can't seem to find the time to all three - so I'm REALLY behind on what everyone is working on and need to do some serious blog browsing - AND I need to get back to work on some of that stuff on the wall - ;))
