LHQSQ - Sashings & Cornerstones - Part 2

Note - these instructions are written in LEFTISH.
If you are right-handed - just reverse the directions.
============

My Left-Handed Quilter's Sampler Quilt -

LHQSQ - See the page/tab above -

Needs sashing and cornerstones -

First let me say that -
I am NOT the one who invented this -
I wish I knew who did -
I’d give her a HUGE hug - ;))

And -

I am NOT the only one who does it this way -
Some of us have been doing sashings and cornerstones -
This way FOR years -

But it may be NEW to you -

SO - This Is How I Do It - ;))

When I cut the sashing fabric -
I cut a couple of sashing strips 6-1/2” x WOF -

Sub-cut one into the 1-1/2” strips -

And left one alone -
6-1/2” x WOF -

Then I cut a strip 1-1/2” from the Brown #2 -
1-1/2” x WOF -
For cornerstones -

Sewed them together -
Pressed the seam AWAY from the darker Brown -
And then sub-cut the strip set into 1-1/2” strips -

Like so -

Take a few of the blocks -
And some plain sashes -
And some sashes with the cornerstones attached -
Put them up on the wall -

Do you see what I see?

If I take off a couple of the top sashing strips -

Do you see this?

Because these blocks will be set “on-point” -
I can add the plain sash to the lower right side -
Pressing toward the sashing strip -

And then add the sash with the cornerstone -
To the lower left side -

Which is WHY -
I pressed AWAY from the darker Brown -
When I sewed the Brown strip to the lighter one -

All sewn and pressed -

The first couple up on the wall -

===

I like how this method simplifies construction -

All I have to do now -

Is get the final layout -

And sew the blocks together - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

Thanks for posting this. I seem to have problems getting the sashing strips to line up correctly. Hopefully this will help.

works for me---been doing it like that "pre-sashing" for years. Treat it like part of the block instead of adding long skinny strips and expecting it to line up proprely.

Thanks, Linda - I knew that I wasn't the only one who does it this way - ;))
