BOB's Tuesday Toast - 10/15/13

Here’s to those who refer to elderly men and women as “adorable” -
And/or “cute” -

May they realize how rude and offensive that is to elderly men and women - ;((

===

It seems to have become common practice -

To refer to the elderly as “cute” and/or “adorable” -

As if they were children -

And BOB thinks that that is rude and offensive - ;((

The elderly have lived long lives -

Learned and experienced things -

That many younger people have not -

And they deserve some RESPECT - ;))

And - trust me -

Even though BOB has white hair -

And may look elderly -

She is definitely NOT “cute” and/or “adorable” -

And she does NOT appreciate being referred to as such - ;((

Nor does she appreciate being called “Honey” -

And/or “Sweetie” -

As if she were a child - ;((

If you want/need to address or refer to BOB -

You may call her by her first name -

“Mrs.” - ;))

But then again - it’s probably just me - ;))

Personally, I look forward to being so old that people stop looking at me like I'm ugly and start calling me adorable again. It's been a long while since I was an infant... :)

So ok. Bad morning huh? ;o)

I agree - I would prefer "adorable" to "ugly" - but "adorable" sounds so patronizing that it irritates the heck (PG version) out of me - ;))

No - actually it's been pretty good so far - just venting a pet peeve is all - ;))

I am in no danger of being addressed with any of those terms. I'd probably have a laughing fit should someone try.

The "cute" and "adorable" obviously don't fit me - but I have been called "Honey" and "Sweetie" - both of which made my blood boil. Maybe I should have a laughing fit next time - just to see their reaction. Good idea - ;))

The first time someone called me "Honey" I was in a doctor's office - made me feel ancient and I'm not that damn old! But turning 60? I told my g-kids now I can be outrageous and say whatever I want and use the excuse "because I'm old and senile" ;-)

Yup - doctor's office - by some young kid. So BOB called her "Sweetie" back - to see her reaction. Her face said that she didn't like it AT ALL - which made BOB smile - ;))
