BOB's Tuesday Toast - 10/29/13

Here’s to science nerds -

May they be paid as much as grown men who play catch for a living - ;))

===

Don’t get me wrong -

If a professional athlete can negotiate a multi-million dollar contract -

More power to him - ;))

But I think that it is a shame -

That grown men who play little boy games -

Anything with a ball -

Running -

Jumping -

Hitting -

Catching -

Get paid way more -

Than science nerds -

Who use their brains for a living - ;((

Where is the incentive for kids -

To learn stuff -

And be smart -

When the “D” student -

Sitting next to them in class -

Can get an athletic scholarship -

To the University of his choice -

And go on to a professional career -

Because he can play a game - ;((

And - don’t get me wrong here, either -

I LOVE “The Big Bang Theory” -

And if an actor can negotiate a humongous paycheck per episode -

More power to him/her -

BUT -

Even actors who PRETEND to be science nerds on TV -

Get paid more than the REAL ones -

And somehow that’s not right - ;((

But then again - it’s probably just me - ;))

i totally agree with you. Playing should not be a career or if it is, it should pay more in line with what a school teacher makes now. The teachers should be getting the pro athlete pay.

Oh so true! A 'relative' in my family gave me the crap that he was going to football to get to college. I told him he still needed to be smart enough to figure out how to play the game. Long story short - he ended up with a GED and no future. I really blame the educators as they helped him glide through some classes just so he'd be able to play... Sports is big business in schools and if people don't believe that, just look at the money spent on the gyms and stadiums at the high schools versus the science labs and libraries. Okay, stepping off the box.....

Thanks, Gene - it's nice to know that it isn't just me - ;))

Katie - you don't need to step off the box - there's plenty of room up here for you - and anyone else who wants to join us - ;))

I am a huge baseball fan but I agree that the salaries that athletes and other entertainers are paid is really out of line. That is really what any sport is, entertainment. I really get my nose out of joint when I see that Parade edition of what people are paid----obscene what people in the service section such as teachers, nurses and first responders are NOT compensated. Athletes careers might be short but still.

I agree - and I wonder how many of them are saving money for their retirement and/or old age - ;))
