So after the potholder -
I tried to make a new oven mitt -
Using an old mitt as a general guide -
And the pattern on the Insul-Brite(R) package - ;))
But the instructions on the package didn’t specify -
Whether the shiny side should face the inside -
Next to my hand -
Or face the outside -
Next to the HOT whatever it was that I wanted to pick up - ;))
SO -
I found an updated pattern on their website - HERE -
The newer version of the pattern states -
The shiny side of your Insul-Brite should face the hot or cold item allowing it to reflect the energy back to its source. The polyester protects your hands, while the cotton batting absorbs condensation.Which made sense to me -
AND answered my question - ;))
I took a fat quarter and cut out the pieces -
According to the pattern -
And layered them like so -
From bottom to top -
Lining - right side down/wrong side up
Warm & Natural batting
Insul-Bright - shiny side up
Cover fabric - fat quarter - right side up
Followed the directions -
And got this - ;))
Not bad -
Might even make some more someday - ;))
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

Cool!! heehee
I so badly need to make some of these. The one's I'm using are in pretty bad shape.
One more ToDo added. ;o)
It was fun - AFTER I figured out which way the Insul-Bright was supposed to go. I made another one but it came out too small for some reason - so you don't get to see that one - haha - ;))
My husband manages to burn every pot holder and mitt I have. (Of course he also burns stuff on the pots and stove) If I spent timme making those... I'd have to hide them!
Ours don't get burned as much as they get dirty - somehow I always manage to get part of the potholder IN the food - or slop some over the side as I pull the pan from the oven - probably why I tend to make them in darker colors - haha - ;))
Some of 'small scrap' projects will end up being hot pads. I plan on using the Insulbright with a layer of cotton batting, now I'll now how to layer it :-)
I messed up the first time with the oven mitt - and had the shiny side facing the lining - like on the potholder - until I realized that the pretty side of the mitt would be facing the HOT plate/pan - and switched it to face the cover fabric. So - just remember the SHINY SIDE SHOULD FACE the HOT/COLD - and you shouldn't have any problems - ;))
