Anita's Arrowhead Block - Left-Handed

I SEE SQUIRRELS EVERYWHERE!! - ;))

UP is one of my favorite movies -

And I identify with the dog - DUG - ;))

I get distracted VERY easily -

Which may explain why I have SO many UFOs -

That I really prefer to call SQUIRRELS - ;))

Anyway -

The other day - LindaJ - of life, quilts and a cat too -
Mentioned Anita Grossman Soloman's Arrowhead Block -
HERE -

Here are the links -

Then today - Gene Black mentioned it again -

And - posted a photo of the one that he made - HERE -

I left him a comment -
Shoot! I was going to play with some more "Crumb" blocks today - but now I want to make one of these instead. And people wonder why I have so many UFOs - haha - ;))
And then I made my test block -

LEFT-HANDED - ;))

I read somewhere that you should make test blocks in "Christmas colors" -

That way you will eventually have a terrific sampler quilt - ;))

I thought it was a great idea -

And have a bunch of Christmas fabric handy for just that purpose - ;))

You don't have to use holiday-themed fabrics -

But if you set aside some coordinated fabric -

Before long - you'll have some "sampler" blocks - ;))

They may be all different sizes -

But that's what sashing is for - haha - ;))

Anyway - the block -

I won't give you detailed instructions -

Or the sizes -

You can download the pattern from the links above - ;))

Just let me say that -

There is a difference between "instructions" and "directions" -
(See my post - HERE - which distinguishes between the two)

And these "directions" are RIGHT-handed - ;))

I want to show you how to cut it LEFT-handed - ;))

===

I chose two squares -

Followed the instructions -
Until it came to the first cut -

Cut the diagonal - LEFT-handed -

Stacked the triangles with the diagonal edge on the LEFT side -
Then made the two cuts - as instructed -

Laid out the pieces -
Watch that the same colors don't touch -
The corners are mirror images of each other -

And sewed it together - ;))

Anita suggests pressing the seams open -

But one of them didn't get the memo - ;))

So I fixed that one -

And pressed it FLAT!! - ;))

Turned it over -

Trimmed it -

And VOILA!! - ;))

All in all -

This block came together quite easily -

And it probably took me longer to write this post -

Download all of the photos -

And set up all of the links -

Than it did to actually make the block - ;))

Thanks Anita, Linda, and Gene!! -

I LOVE SQUIRRELS!! - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

You make it look so easy. My left handed version is to draw a pattern on squared paper with my left hand. Cut ut out with my left hand. Trace around it on the fabric with my left hand, and cut the fabric leaving about a quarter inch seam allowance (left handed of course. Then I thread the left-handed needle and sew it all together from left to right. Probably your way is faster but I ed up with fewer UFOs that way. I do like the idea of keeping certain coordinated fabrics for test blocks. I wonder if I need to make a test block or if every block I make IS a test block.

This was a fun squirrel to chase. I have been spending a lot of time chasing squirrels. Yesterday the squirrel I chased was watching the movie "UP!" again. The movie has so many levels of story that I just love watching it.

I agree - this squirrel was a fun one to chase. I have some 10" squares that would be perfect for this block - so it's on my "Want to make someday" list - ;))

Julie - for some reason you are showing as a "no-reply commenter" this time - so I'll email you later. I know that you do all of your wonderful work by hand - so while my/Anita's way may be faster - your way is probably far more accurate - ;))

well, then I am glad I said something about that block when one of my quilt group had a quilt top made with the pattern. I remembered it being in a book after you mentioned it and probably have it on my shelf.

What a great idea about testing blocks out in holiday fabric so you might have a sampler some day! I'm going to put that in then guild newsletter next time. That's how clever I think it was! LOL

I'm glad that you mentioned Anita's block, too!! Gene and I both downloaded it - I did because I have NO IDEA where Anita's book is - I know I have it - I just don't know where it is - ;))

And the idea for working up test blocks in Christmas fabrics is NOT MINE. I read it somewhere and wish I could give credit to whoever it was - but it as a LONG time ago and I simply don't remember where I saw/read it - it was just one of those things that stuck in my head. I wish that I had remembered it sooner - I would be well on my way to a good-sized sampler quilt - ;))

I wonder if I have fixed the no reply situation. I do tend to talk to myself a lot.
Since only some of the bloggers I am in contact with are not getting a no reply, it might have something to do with the difference between google and bloglovin.

Nope - still "no reply" - sorry ;))
