DESIGN WALL MONDAY -
Check out all of us who link up with Judy L. -
At Patchwork Times on Mondays.
We have some awesome stuff on our walls!
Well, THEY do - ME - not so much sometimes - ;))
===
On my wall today -
Some "Flying Geese" units that I made using my LEFT-EZE™ Rule -
And I am loving my new toy - ;))
After messing with business "ducks" all week -
I decided to take the weekend OFF - ;))
I finished up the odd bits and pieces that I had cut earlier as "test" pieces -
But those really aren't my colors -
And I wanted to play with something else -
So I dug out one of my Bali Pops™ - Kiwiberry -
By Hoffman California International Fabrics -
Now THOSE are some yummy colors! - ;))
I peeled off the two top strips -
And cut up some "Flying Geese" units -
Using the LEFT-EZE™ Rule -
And sewed them together - ;))
Some came out really well -
And then others - not so much -
So - wondering what was going on -
I measured my pieces -
And some were WAAAY off -
Did I cut them wrong? -
Is the ruler not as accurate as I thought? -
What the heck was happening?? -
Then I read the "fine print" on the Bali Pops™ -
Emphasis added by me -
"Fabric strips are hand cut. Slight variations in width may occur."WHEW!! -
It's NOT the ruler -
It's the strips!! -
So I fussed with the ones that I had already cut -
Since I couldn't "re-cut" them -
I fiddled with the seam allowance stitching line -
And managed to get 10 out of 16 to work - ;))
Am I going to finish up the rest of the strips? -
Nope - too labor intensive -
I want to have FUN playing with my new ruler -
Not have to fiddle with each and every piece -
Because of "Slight variations in width" -
So I put the strips in a baggie and will play with them again when strip width accuracy isn't as critical - maybe a "Jelly Roll Race" quilt - or a paper-piecing project - or a string quilt - or something like that -
And I pulled out these -
It's an 18-pack of strips and a matching 18-pack of 10" squares -
I should be able to get some pretty blocks from this batch -
And get lots of practice using my new toy -
Hopefully WITHOUT "Slight variations in width" - ;))
And - for those of you who are interested -
I got the feedback from the beta-testers and we are making a couple of cosmetic "revisions" to the design. I contacted the manufacturer and next week they will work up another artwork "proof" for me to approve. Then I can place an order - and we'll see how long it will take for me to actually get them. I don't know if they are backlogged - and forgot to ask. Oh, well - can't worry about stuff that I can't control - they get here when they get here.
I tried to get the PayPal and postage/shipping "ducks" lined up - but got sidetracked with the design modifications - so that's on the agenda again this week. Along with re-doing the tutorials (minus photos) so they are ready to post on the new blog. Got that set up - worked up a "page" for a "Size Chart" and have been "testing" that every chance I get to see if I can go from a "pattern" size to a "pre-cut strip width" size - and so far - it's been working. It would be awfully embarrassing if "I" - the math geek - had mathematical errors on my "Size Chart" - so I'm trying to not let that happen.
When I get the new "model" - I can re-take the photos - stick them in the tutorials where they belong - and they should be good to go.
At least that's the plan - ;))
Just out of curiosity -
Are any of you interested in a "preview" of the LEFT-EZE™ Rule? -
Would you like to see how it works BEFORE it becomes available? -
I'm not set up to take any "pre-orders" yet -
But I'd like to know how many of you are interested in this little adventure of mine -
And get a general idea of how many of these "toys" I should order -
And now that I figured out how to get the "I am not a Robot" thingy to work -
I took the "word verification" bit OFF the comment section -
So please leave me a comment and let me know what you think -
Thanks - ;))
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

That has been my annoyance with pre-cuts - there are variations in size that make my blocks less accurate. The Bali pops are worse than most - but I do love the colors.
I am a "rightie" but I am finding the adventure fascinating.
Can I leave a comment now?
Yay
Kathaleeny - Yup! - you and everyone else -
As long as you can "Please prove you're not a robot" - ;))
Just had to pop in and say I saw your name I the classifieds today--I had no idea you lived nearby. Good luck with all your ruler making--very ambitious and exciting.
*in, not I. Oops
Thanks, Annie - small world, isn't it? - And, by the way, I love reading your blog - you are a very busy and talented lady - ;))
