LHQSQ - Block #23

Another 6” sampler block -

That you can make using -

2-1/2” squares -

and HST that FINISH at 2” -

Three across and three down -

Variations of the basic NINE-PATCH -

The sewn block will MEASURE 6-1/2” -

And FINISH at 6” -

===

#23 - Simple Basket -

3 medium/light HST
4 MEDIUM/light HST (a second medium)
2 MEDIUM squares (the second medium)

Here again -

EQ7 wanted me to make this block -

With all of the MEDIUMS as one piece -

I could have used a template -

Or I could have cut a large triangle -

And then sewn a smaller triangle to the bottom right corner -

Or sewn a square - using the sew-and-flip method - to the bottom right corner -

Or a number of different things -

But I like trying to break these blocks down -

Into nine-patches -

It’s fun -

Try it - you'll see - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

I probably would go with a large triangle and do that flippy deal in the corner---but that's just me, LOL. I totally see that this is a 3 x 3 grid essentially but I guess since I foundation piece a good bit, I eliminate lines where I can.

I AM curious though---how do you do your HST units? I don't know if it is how my eyes are tracking lately or what. Instead of veering outwards like I used to I find myself veering inwards especially if I try to just sew the dumb things in a standard method. Am I just guiding it one direction or the other??

This is leading to reliance on triangles on a roll or thangles for that department. I'm okay with that but darned it is aggravating!

If that went twice, I'm sorry---those old eyes of mine can't read the robot letters when they bold and smoosh them together like that.

There are SO many different ways to construct a block - I just try to figure out one what works for me - and try to give my readers some options so that they can do the same.

And - there are SO many different ways to make HST - I did a post a while back on how I do mine. I don't remember just when - but I have a page/tab at the top of my blog - LHQSQ - LHQ Sampler Quilt - it should be listed there - ;))
