The pattern said that it was -
A direct “SEW & FLIP” method on a freezer paper foundation. No templates required. Includes a ”PRACTICE UNIT”, directions and illustrations to learn the technique necessary before beginning the quilt.===
I copied the pattern for Foundation Paper Piecing -
So that I wouldn't ruin the original -
And bought the recommended "fabric pack" -
So that I would have the perfect colors - ;))
I used solid navy for the border - ;)).
It wasn’t until after I had completely assembled the top and borders -
That I realized that I had forgotten to piece in the top left leaf in the border - ;))
I fudged by appliqueing the leaf in the proper place - ;))
Won second place at the County Fair in August 1996

Somehow my version came out the reverse of the original pattern - ;))
I had unknowingly begun my “backwards” way -
Of doing Foundation Paper Piecing -
That I continue to use to this day - ;))
So - if the "proper" instructions -

Sound backwards to you -
Maybe it's because they are - ;))
It's only SEW & FLIP -

So beautiful! I would have appliqued the forgotten piece too. So sense in taking anything apart if there is a good alternative. Thanks for sharing this one.
Okay, I do love paper piecing but I think even this would intimidate me! Very pretty.
Nice! One of my favorite flowers. I tried to grow some once. Not good! Clever save on that leaf.
It is not backwards if you speak and do leftish. It is merely your version of it. If that method works for you, your way, then by golly, stick with it. What a pretty piece and deserving of the fair recognition! Clever way to handle the leaf too.
Thanks, Karen - that was my thinking, too. I wasn't about to take it apart to redo the border for one little piece - ;))
Haha - actually it wasn't THAT hard. It was sewn in a bunch of little sections with certain colors/fabrics in certain places - and usually made NO sense even when it was joined to the next little section. But it did all came together eventually - and really was easier than it looks - my kind of pattern - ;))
Thanks, Linda - I think my save on the leaf worked out very well - I don't think it's that noticeable and most people wouldn't know the difference if I didn't tell them - ;))
Thanks, Linda - I'm glad you like it and the way I fixed my goof - ;)) I agree with you - my version isn't backwards to me. I do it the way that makes the most sense to me - and what is backwards to one person may be frontwards to another - ;))

I really love this - so very pretty. I flip and do things backwards all the time, and I'm right handed. I really don't care which way the things face, which is why I flip or fail to flip all the time. I do enjoy patterns that make no sense until WAHLA! There it is! Sort of fun that way.
