Machine Pieced
Machine Appliqued
Machine Quilted
Hand Tied
Baby Quilt -
Approx 45" x 45"
Completed - July 1996
Made for Grandson #1
Pattern - Lion -
Down on the Farm Originals by Jean Wilkinson
(The same pattern that I used for Nephew #2 - 1978 - HERE - )
Won second place at the County Fair in August 1996
But I was really upset that they didn't hang it up - ;((
Instead - they bunched it up and stuffed it in a case -
So all you could see were the eyes and nose - ;((
Their excuse was that it had no hanging sleeve - ;((
Who puts a hanging sleeve on a baby quilt? - ;))
And funny thing - the other County Fair -
Had no trouble using clothesline -
And clothes pins -
To hang up the Lion -
That I made for Nephew #2 in 1978 -
EIGHTEEN YEARS earlier!! - HERE -
Also entered in a local quilt show - January 1997
No ribbon

Very cute lion quilt. A good pattern is always worth revisiting. Why reinvent the wheel?
I think it is so sad when quilts do not get hung up at fairs. My local fair stopped doing this a number of years ago. I always pin a picture of the full quilt to my mine. Still it would be nice for people to see the entire quilt, not just a small part of it.
Your lion quilts are very cute!
Thanks, Karen - it is one of my favorite patterns - ;))
Thanks, Cindy - I AGREE - it would be nice for people to see the ENTIRE quilt, not just a small part of it. The viewer gets cheated because they don't get to see the whole thing - and the quilter gets cheated because he/she put a lot of work into the entry and wants to show it off - not just a small part of it. I know that a County Fair is not a quilt show - but you would think that the Fair people would want to encourage quilters to enter their quilts - and the way that the quilts are displayed is important. Makes me wonder if they notice a decrease in the number of entries from year to year - ;))
Cute Lion - I've never entered anything in anything.... but I think I can understand the frustration of not having what you do enter displayed for true appreciation...
Thanks, Katie - it IS frustrating not to have my stuff displayed for all to see. If I didn't want to show it off - I wouldn't have entered it in the Fair - but then again - it's probably just me - ;))
Cute lion and I agree there should be no problem with using line and clips to hang even a full sized quilt. Why create the category in the first place if the entries won't be shown????
Thanks, Julie - I thought the same thing - still do - ;))
