Here’s to Quilt Bloggers -
Who misspell or misuse words -
May they someday learn the difference -
Between the word they meant -
And the word they used - ;))
===
BOB already did a post -
About mixing up words - HERE -
But was reminded of how prevalent -
The problem is -
When Kobe Bryant was hurt last month - ;((
According to an article in the Huffington Post - HERE -
Kobe Bryant Will Be Back: A Legacy Revisited
By Tyler R. Tynes - 4/14/13
Emphasis added by me -
Bryant had this to say on his injury via his Facebook page on Friday:
"If you see me in a fight with a bear, prey for the bear". Ive (sic) always loved that quote. Thats (sic) "mamba mentality" we don't quit, we don't cower, we don't run. We endure and conquer.===
I don’t think that means -
What he thinks it means - ;))
Not only did he misquote the quote -
When he changed one word -
But that one word -
Changes everything -
And I wish him the best of luck - ;))
But then again - it’s probably just me - ;))
EDIT UPDATE - 5/22/13
Kevin Durant - HERE - seems to have a much larger problem -
His giant back tattoo appears to have a misspelled word -
Oops - ;))

I think some of it is the fault of spell check. They don't attempt to over-ride it or some things like "prey" and "pray" are wrong.
The other part is some of those failed teaching plans, I think. Kids were being taught to spell how things sounded, like the suffix "tion" was allowed to be spelled "shun" Later they would supposedly learn to spell it correctly. They changed the teaching curriculum and never got back to learning the mysteries of the English language. My impression was why not learn it correctly in the first place like all the rest of us had to do. It is sad because is just makes people look ignorant even if they are far from that.
I think that reading - writing - and arithmetic - are fast becoming lost arts. Basic literacy is becoming rare. Too bad they can't go back to the basics that we learned as children. Some people have never heard of Roman numerals or know that the Titanic actually existed! They have access to TONS of information - and don't seem to know any of it. And there is such reliance on technology - what will they do when the power goes out?
I see a future where no one will know how to read - so they won't be able to decipher a book - or visit the places and meet the characters in the stories.
No one will be able to write - so they won't be able to communicate effectively. They will continue to misspell words and assume that the other person knows what they mean - not realizing that using the correct word would help immensely.
No one will have learned math - which basically teaches you how to think logically - so they won't be able to figure out much of anything. Learning multiplication tables does more than teach the combinations - it teaches discipline - memorizing skills - and how to LEARN stuff.
The older generation seems to be more literate - whereas the younger generation seems to be more tech-savvy. I prefer literacy to technology - but then again, it's probably just me.
I do appreciate technology but I agree that it seems people tend to rely on spell check and calculators too much. I hear about they can use the dictionary - great if they have a least a beginning knowledge of a word - but most don't! Okay, this could get long, so suffice it to say, "I agree"
Thanks, Katie - it's nice to know that I'm not alone - ;))
