Antique Squirrel - Unit A -

The first unit for my Antique Squirrel

Is a "Square-on-point" -

The "Center Square" is cut at 2-5/8" x 2-5/8" -

And the HST for the "Corners" are cut from 2" strips -

Using my LEFT-EZE™ Rule

As I showed on this post - HERE

===

I chose a random square for the "center" -

And four random HST for the "corners" -

I sewed the first HST to one edge of the center square -

With the "point" of the HST lined up on a crease -

That I had finger-pressed down the center of the square -

I forgot to take a photo of the "finger-pressed" crease step -

So pretend this is "that" photo - LOL -

Then I sewed a second HST to the opposite side of the square -

Pressed both HST away from the center square -

Trimmed the dog-ears -

And lined up the third HST with one side -

NOTE -
If you cut all of your HST with the RIGHT side of the fabric facing UP -
The FLAT edge will be on the LEFT side -
When you place it face DOWN on the square -
And will line up nicely with the FLAT edge of the square -

When you stitch it down -

The flat side will be under your needle first -

And the 1/4" seam will come out at the other end -

At the point where the HST extends past the square -

Do the same with the fourth HST -

Press both HST away from the center square -

Trim the dog-ears -

And the unit should measure 3-1/2" square -

Mine needed a bit of trimming -

But I chalk that up to being in a hurry to show you how to do it -

That's my story and I'm sticking to it - LOL -

So - one down -

And a couple hundred more to go - LOL -

I will need several more of these units -

And then I will need to make some of the second "unit" -

Before I can make a block -

So it might take me a couple of days -

Before I can show you that part - LOL - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

Great tutorial on the "Square on Point" -although I call it a "Square in a Square." I don't think either name is all that accurate. But it is better than some of the other quilt block names - like Old Maid's Puzzle.

You make this look easy, Kitty! A couple days is not a long time to wait. Can you imagine how long it took a young girl to do just one block sewing it decades ago by hand? This will be beautiful!

Haha @ finger pressed photo. That's a great tutorial. Very precise.
