From the comments and emails that I have received lately from all of you -
(Thanks, by the way - ;))
It seems that I might be the only one on the planet -
Who is having THIS MUCH TROUBLE -
Getting her "scant" 1/4" seam allowance -
JUST RIGHT!!
And -
Then I had the most horrible thought -
Do you think I might need a new sewing machine??
Maybe the new ones are calibrated to sew a "scant" 1/4" -
And not a "true" 1/4" like mine -
Oh, dear - if that's true -
Shhhhh...
PLEASE don't tell Lily!!
She might get jealous -
And hide my "scant" 1/4" FOREVER!!
And -
PLEASE don't tell My Other Half!!
He thinks three sewing machines and one serger -
(That I turned on ONCE -)
Are plenty. ;))
===
Seriously -
IF - and that's a "BIG" IF -
I were to even THINK about getting a new sewing machine -
What would you guys recommend?
What have you got?
Do you like it?
Does it give you that "scant" 1/4" that I can't seem to find or keep? ;))
Tell me - tell me - tell me -
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

I find with my Viking machines, the 1/4inch stitch and the foot with the guide on it, all stitch at 1/4 inch. Not a scant quarter inch. I move my needle one more click to the right, make sure I am using 50wt thread and get a scant 1/4 inch seam. I think it's the thread and the extra click that do the trick. PS: the Sapphire is a really nice, non embroidery Viking machine. Big area to the right of the needle, automatic presser foot, sensor system, scissors. Yeah, baby give it a test drive.
Thanks, Chris!! I use 50wt thread and 3 clicks to the right - one for one thread on the top fabric - one for one thread on the bottom fabric - and one click for my tendency to "mush" the fabric up against the guide - at least that's how I figure it. ;))
As for the Sapphire - I have heard that the free-motion features don't work that well - and for the price I think that ALL of the features should work REAL WELL. But then again - it's probably just me. ;))
50wt thread and 3 clicks to the right? You've got this quarter-inch issue licked. Just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, the answer is within you, not in a machine. (I have a Sapphire - in fact, two - and I'm more than pleased. Free-motion feature? There is none. It's all in the user!
