And some tension adjustments after I changed to white thread and stitched some loops. I want/need to get the tension right with this foot so that I don't have to switch back to my open-toe foot to do Free-Motion Quilting. It seems like it would be more efficient to use the same foot for both FMQ AND ruler work - ;))
The white thread doesn't show very well but it's not bad on the top -
And not bad on the back, either -
So that's progress!! - LOL - ;))
Then I tried the "clamshell" ruler again - vertically - and discovered that part of my problem going "backwards" was that
EDIT - I said that backwards - the ruler was riding on top of the ruler foot -
I had to push it down under the shaft in the back of the foot to keep the foot in the "groove" to go where it was supposed to go - after that - it was MUCH easier -
When the ruler is positioned horizontally - the stitching is side to side - and it's easier to hold the ruler but harder to stitch sideways - at least it is for me - but I like having the option of using the ruler either vertically OR horizontally - depending on what/where I'm stitching -
Then there's the part where you have to decide exactly how far to "travel" before you start stitching the next row -
I thought it would be one "width" of the ruler -
But it turns out to be two -
So now I know - LOL - ;))
I really like learning new stuff -
And I don't expect it to be "perfect" right away -
So I'm not really that hard on myself when it comes to the messy stitches -
I know that learning to do anything WELL takes time -
But sometimes the learning curve still sucks - LOL - ;))
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

Yes, the learning curve sucks when you have quilts that you want quilted -now!
That is why I am sticking with the straight ruler for the quilt I am working on. I need more practice with the Curve/Arc ruler.
You are an inspiration! I have yet to try working with my rulers on my long arm (I am not that coordinated with the sewing machine so I won't even attempt ruler work on it).
But, I have gotten really good at meandering - with and without circles - and that works well for me with the charity quilts that I am doing right now.
But, I am thinking that I should try branching out a bit more so that I can expand my horizons.
Have fun.
Progress is progress...you'll have the rulers mastered before you know it. Keep up the good work.
Yep, you can only get better as you go. Will be fun to look back at your beginning pieces to see just how much improvement you made. Like your line "not hard on myself". Smart girl!!
The more you practice, the more you'll get into a groove and feel more comfortable. Taking the steps just to play around is a huge step forward. Things are looking great! Keep it up. --Andrea
