Join me -

The other day my friend helped me unfold and lay out my LHQSQ -
Left-Handed Quilter Sampler Quilt
top so I could take some more photos -

Here's the left side -

And the right side -

Then she helped me put it up on the design wall in the hallway - it was definitely a two-person job - that puppy is huge - and we pinned up the bottom rows so that it wouldn't hit the floor - don't want it to get dirty - and I don't want to trip over it - ;))

After we got it up on the wall - I realized that I have had it SIDEWAYS for years - it's a 7 x 8 on-point layout - and should be 7 across and 8 down - not the way I have it - 8 across and 7 down - but then again - I don't remember if I ever laid it out on my bed - maybe it fit better sideways - or it just fit the wall better that way - LOL - ;))

Here's a close-up of some of the blocks -

They are all 9-patches and range from super simple to fairly complex -

I don't normally like Sampler Quilts - especially those with a hundred different colors and all of the grids - 3x3 - 4x4 - 5x5 - 6x6 - they are WAY too busy for me -

I limited mine to a 3x3 or a 6x6 grid - and stuck to 9-patches -
I used a lot of different fabrics - but limited the number of colors -
Red/brown/gold/neutrals -

I think it looks more cohesive that way - LOL - ;))

This year I'm going to make another one in a different colorway - a nice leisurely long-term project to keep me busy when I want/need a break from the FMQ that I also have planned for this year - and all of the Squirrels that cross my path -

I lost my original EQ7 project file but I have a binder with copies of the blocks I used - and I have the quilt top to show me how I pressed the blocks - and where I placed them in the layout - so it should be easy enough to duplicate them -

Last time I used red/brown/neutrals for the blocks with gold sashing and dark brown cornerstones and border blocks -

And I made 99 blocks - surrounded by two rows of border blocks -

This time I won't make quite as many and it will be much smaller - LOL - ;))

I still need to choose my colors for this new one -

I want/need two main colors for the blocks plus neutrals -

One color for the sashing -

One darker color for the cornerstones and border blocks -

I'll probably use jelly rolls and scraps for the blocks - a 2-3 yard piece for the sashing - and a 4-5 yard piece for the cornerstones and border blocks -

I can use EQ7 to work up a couple of different sizes - determine the actual yardage requirements for each - and decide which of the blocks I want to use -

Then I plan to cut as many "units" as I can using my LEFT-EZE Rule™ -

Mix and match them to re-create some of my favorite blocks - ;))

I know you may be too busy -

And I had no takers last time -

But - again - I'm going to invite all of my readers to quilt-along with me - ;))

You can be thinking about the colors you might want to use -

And how big you would want yours to be -

And you can decide which blocks you want to make as we go along -

No stress - no pressure -

I'll post my color choices and the yardage requirements in the next couple of days -

And then - every week or so - starting in February -
Or March - depending on how quickly I can get my taxes out to my accountant -

I'll post the number of "units" needed for a couple of blocks - maybe more - maybe less - depending on how difficult they are and how many are in a "batch" -

Then I'll post how to arrange them to make the blocks -

I'll try to follow the same progression as I did on the first one -

But I make no promises - ;))

I guess you could consider this the "reverse" of a "mystery" -

It will be at a LEISURELY pace - spread out over a period of time -

I doubt that there will be hundreds of them in the same colors -

And we all know at the beginning how it will end - LOL - ;))

So far my LHQSQ - Left-Handed Quilter Sampler Quilt is one-of-a-kind -

And when I get this new one done -

There will be two - similar - but not the same - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

I may join you for this leisurely quilt along. I like sampler quilts.

I am not quite sure what you are talking about with the grids. Maybe I call that something else ha ha.

Sounds interesting...I have to concentrate on UFO's this year...but maybe I could sneak in some extra blocks for small projects as I go.

I'm trying to NOT start anything new but if it is truly no stress, no pressure then it may be fun. I'll be watching. Is this one that can use up some scraps? Or do you suggest the fabrics be more coordinated?
