Testing -

Went well today - ;))

I had an idea for my Easy Street Detour Around the World - HERE -

And "slept on it" -

Then after my chores this morning -

I was going to try it out on a "test piece" -

To see what would happen - ;))

Instead of "cutting" it down to a more manageable size -

Or - even worse - having to "un-sew" it -

Because it is SO HUGE!! -

I originally thought of folding the corners in toward the middle - like a wonton wrapper - if that makes sense. That would cut the size in half - make it two-sided - and it would automatically have the same fabrics on the "backing" -

But then I thought it might be even better if I could make it like the background square for a Cathedral Window - sew some partial seams - turn it "inside out" - and disguise the "opening" somehow - similar ideas - same two-sided effect -

So I went looking for a tutorial on how to make the background square for a Cathedral Window - because I had forgotten how to do it - liked this version - HERE - and did a test on a small square -

After I figured out how to fix the wonky corner that I left open to "turn it" -

I needed to figure out how to get the batting in there somehow - ;))

Then I had another idea - and tried it out after I prepped another square -

I won't bore you with all of the detail photos - but it worked!! -

At least it worked on a very small scale - I'll have to baste the batting really well on a larger piece to keep it in place when I turn it inside out - but it worked!! - YAY!! -

Hopefully I'll find some fabric in this tub that will help me stabilize and/or border the untrimmed sides of this monster before I try my experiment "for real" - ;))

But now I have to add this last bit -

The more I think about it - and the more I edit this post - the more I think that I'm making it harder than it needs to be -

And I realize now that I got side-tracked with testing the Cathedral Window option and totally forgot about my original "wonton wrapper" idea -

So - tomorrow I'm going to test that -

Once I decide how I want to trim and/or stabilize the sides -

I should be able to press/fuse some fusible batting in place - and then fold the corners in toward the middle -

I can test partial seams at the "new" corners - and if that doesn't work I can always cover the seams with a strip like I was making a giant "quilt-as-you-go" piece -

But if I can press/fuse them down - I won't have to mess with trying to turn this monster "inside out" - and worry about keeping the batting where it's supposed to be while I do it - LOL -

It should be fun to see if my testing goes as well tomorrow as it did today - ;))
