Practice -

And more practice -

I need a LOT of practice -

So I pulled out this old practice piece -

And marked a grid in a purple section -

Free-motion quilted the straight lines -

And then practiced my "orange peel" quilting -

Down the whole length of the section -

It doesn't look too bad -

Until you look up close - LOL - ;))

With practice -

I can only improve - right? - ;))

I have LOTS of stuff to use for practice -

So it will be fun to see -

How long it takes me to improve - LOL - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

WOW! You want to improve and think you need practice? I mean how much more perfect can it get? I hope your goal isn’t to make it look like a machine did it! Unbelievable FMQ, and I’d settle with pride on not needing practice. WOW!

It looks great. The idea of quilting is that it appears as one coherent piece. A wobble or imperfect geometry is not an issue. Show quilts are another whole area. You should be able to see the hand of the maker on a quilt. Once, someone I knew came to see my longarm and when she took a look at my quilting on the longarm, she said, "That is why I am spending the money on a computerized system". That stung for a long time until it dawned on me that I was after a handwriting type style, not mattress quilting. Do we beat ourselves up for our handwriting because it is not machine like? No. Love your orange peel.

I agree with Linda. It doesn't need to be "machine made perfect." Those orange peels read as a cohesive group.
I see improvement from the first you showed on the "yellow" quilt. Yes, I can see bobbles and missed marks...but I see those on my quilts all the time - I know that once washed some of that will disappear into some lovely texture.
My "practice piece" like that quilt is one of my favorite quilts. Ha ha... I know we took the same class.
