More testing -

Today I tested more tension combinations -

Using my TOWA Bobbin Tension Gauge -

This set is Bobbin at 170 -
Top at 2 - 2-1/2 - 3
The right side is 2/170 -

This set is Bobbin at 160 -
Top at 2 - 2-1/2 - 3

I don't know what's going on with the top row -
It's at 2/160 - and shouldn't be THAT loopy on the back -

I really don't want the top tension at 3 -
It's too tight - and the thread breaks -

I thought I had it at 2/170  -
That's why I did a bunch on the right side -

But now I'm not so sure looking at these photos -

Maybe I should test it in "reverse" -
Set the top tension to 2 -
Then play with the bobbin tension settings -

There has to be "sweet spot" somewhere -

I just have to find it -

So I'll play with it some more tomorrow -

After I take a little break -

And play with the backing -

For my Upstairs/Downstairs - Pastel Brights again -

Switching between "projects" is FUN, too - ;))

Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

I only know some about bobbins on domestic machines, but is it possible you are putting the bobbin in wrong, or maybe missing a step along the way?
I know on my domestic if I put the bobbin in with the thread going the wrong way, it causes all sorts of issues.
Could there be lint built up in some of the tension works (top or bottom) that could be causing crazy tension?

My top tension dial doesn't have any numbers but on a regular sewing machine the higher the number the tighter the tension. Between 4 and 5 is normal for a regular sewing machine. On your TOWA is a higher number tighter or looser? I use Jamie Wallen's method on his video since I don't have any numbers to rely on.
