Today I played a little more with the layout of the backing -
Then I played with my new toy -
For my Upstairs/Downstairs - Pastel Brights -
I think I'll use all
of the orange on the right side -
And the pink on the left side -
That way -
if I load it sideways -
The orange will be at the top -
And any "extra"
will be the pink on the bottom -
Which I think will be a more "useful"
scrap than the orange -
I also played with the photo issue -
I think I have it figured out -
I need to "edit/crop" it on my phone -
Then
"share" it to the Photo app and upload it from there -
It takes a few
minutes -
I thought it was automatic -
But I think I confused the
"upload" with the "backup" -
Anyway -
I took two photos today and got them to
Google Photos on my desktop -
From there I can get them to my blog so
it's all good -
Then I played with my new toy -
A TOWA bobbin tension gauge that I got it in the mail
today -
I just measured the tension on a couple of bobbins -
And compared
it to a chart that Superior Thread uses -
Mine register at 120 and they
recommend 170-200 for 50 wt. thread -
Grace also recommends "2" for the
top tension -
And mine is set at "4" -
So I've got some adjusting to
do -
According to them - my bobbin tension is too loose -
And my
top tension is too tight -
I think I'll set the top tension to "2" -
And set one
bobbin to 180 -
Then see what happens -
I know it's all a balancing act -
And I can always go back to my "old" settings -
But it can't hurt to play a little -
I have a practice quilt to play with -
And the back isn't ready for the next quilt anyway -
So the timing is
perfect - ;))
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

I hope that bobbin tension gauge helps you to get it so that the tension is near perfect. I have heard good things about those from other long arm owners.
I am glad you are figuring out the photo thing using your phone. It sure saves buying a new camera.
My top tension has no numbers. If I get the bottom right, the top is not hard to get in place. Sometimes, winding the bobbin, the tension might change from the beginning of the winding to the end. I find sometimes the tension on the bobbin will change close to the end. I try to watch the bobbin winding so it stays consistent all the way and that helps. Sometimes at the beginning, it slips around a bit. My bobbin tension is at 240 and that makes the best for me to get the top right. I think you will be able to figure out what works in a bit.
