BOB and the cure
BOB thinks that -
The last disease ever “cured” -
Was polio -
And that -
If a vaccine hadn’t been discovered -
In the 1950’s -
It probably would not be discovered today.
It would not stand a chance -
Against the drug companies -
Who have no incentive -
Whatsoever -
To find a “cure” -
For anything -
When they can -
Make so much $$$ -
Selling you a drug -
That you have to take -
Every day -
For the rest of your life -
To “manage” your disease -
Whatever it is - ;))
Anybody remember -
Jerry Lewis -
And his -
Labor Day Telethons -
For Muscular Dystrophy?
Jerry’s Kids?
Well, Labor Day is coming up -
And they are doing it again.
For over 40 years -
That man raised BILLIONS of $$$ -
For Muscular Dystrophy -
Still no “cure” -
So tell me -
Exactly how much $$$ -
Do they need??
But then again - it’s probably just me.

Orca Bay - Blue Extra - AGAIN
I’m not exactly sure why -
But -
I decided to UNSEW these blocks - here -
It might have been because the power went OUT -
And it's hard to use my sewing machine with no POWER - ;))
Or -
It might be because I just got -
Bonnie Hunter’s - "String Fling" -
Available - here -
And it's giving me IDEAS - ;))
Or it might just be that -
I think they’re CUTE -
And FUN to make -
And I want to make MORE of them - ;))

Plan - ???
Thank goodness for Blogger’s “Schedule” feature -
‘Cuz I get cranky when I can’t post - ;))
And -
The other day -
When the power went OUT -
This was the view from my porch -
And this -
And across the street was this -
They had to replace the transformer -
And - to do that -
They had to turn the power OFF - ;((
Heaven forbid they tell us -
AHEAD OF TIME -
That they were going to do that -
So that we could PLAN for the outage -
Oh - I forgot -
PLAN is another four-letter word -
Just like MATH - ;))

Block #49 - Aunt Dinah
1 light strip(s) - 1-1/2” x 11”
4 light/dark - 2-patch - 1-1/2” x 2-1/2”
1 light square - 2-1/2” x 2-1/2”
4 dark HST triangles
4 light/medium QST units
4 medium/dark QST units
There are several ways to make this “unit” -
This Is How I Do It -
Sew the 2-patch units to a light strip -
One right after the other -
And cut them into 2-1/2” segments like so -
Press them open -
And pair them with a dark HST triangle -
Putting the dark HST triangle -
On TOP of the open segment -
Right sides together -
Lining up the the TOP RIGHT corner -
Sew from the TOP LEFT corner to BOTTOM RIGHT corner -
Press them open -
Folding down the HST triangle -
To the BOTTOM LEFT corner -
And trim the underneath side -
Sorry - I turned the patch in this photo -
It's the extra fabric UNDER the HST triangle -
That you just sewed on -
And assemble it as a 9-patch -
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -

QJ - Hawaiian Hibiscus - Red on White
QUILT JOURNAL - HAWAIIAN HIBISCUS
RED ON WHITE
Unfinished
Started - 1978
Hand Applique
Hand Quilting
King-Size
Pattern - Hibiscus #106
Designed By Ea Of Hawaii
Elizabeth A. Akana (C) 1972
While we were in Hawaii - I found this beautiful Hawaiian Applique pattern.
Some friends (GL and another lady whose name I don't remember) -
helped me cut and baste the top.
G arranged for us to use some tables at her church.
The three of us met one day and proceeded to cut out the top - snowflake style.
I remember when we unfolded it, that it was upside down -
the seam allowances showed on the top.
I don't know how she did it, but G managed to flip the entire top piece by piece -
I was amazed!!
We spent all day basting the top -
using chopsticks to bunch up the fabric so we could get the needle through both layers.
When I accidentally cut one of the stems -
they told me that it was OK -
the Hawaiians believe that only God is perfect -
if I had not made the mistake - or another one -
I would have had to make one intentionally.
Unfortunately, the fabric choices back then were very limited -
and my selections were poor.
The red fabric is a cotton/polyester blend and frays horribly.
The white background is a king-size muslin sheet -
with a dense stitch count -
and will be impossible to hand quilt.
I will never finish this quilt.
I was hoping to make at least one "real" Hawaiian quilt in my lifetime.
I figured that if we were lucky enough to live in Hawaii -
I would either have to learn to quilt Hawaiian-style -
Or learn to hula -
And I sure as hell can't hula!!! - ;))

===
Block #48 - Country Farm
4 light squares
1 light/dark 4-patch
4 light/medium (green) QST units
Sew the QST units -
With the light on top -
So that the light flips to the right side -
And makes a HST triangle -
Cut 2 squares - 2” x 2” - EACH -
Of 2 mediums -
And YES - I said - 2" - not 2-1/2" -
These are special - you'll see - ;))
One medium (green) should be the same -
As that used in the QST units above -
Cut the 2" squares on the diagonal -
Lay them out like this -
And sew them together -
With the medium (green) on top -
Match and sew them to -
A medium#2 QST triangle -
So that the medium (green) -
Is in the middle -
I’’m calling this a QST threesie -
They WON’T MATCH -
Because the 2” squares that I cut -
Are over-sized -
It will be trimmed later - ;))
Sew the HST triangle -
To the QST threesie -
Make 4 of them -
Trim them to 2-1/2” square -
The trimmings should be minimal - ;))
Lay it out with the light on the OUTSIDE -
Of the patch -
And assemble it as a 9-patch -
Talk to you later - gotta go - gotta sew -
